A numerical study of subgrade stiffening as a mitigation measure for railway induced vibrations

چکیده
This paper studies the efficiency of subgrade stiffening next to the track as a mitigation measure for railway induced vibrations by means of a two-and-a-halfdimensional coupled finite element – boundary element methodology. The pyhsical mechanism is interpreted in the frequency–wavenumber domain, illustrating that the stiffened block of soil next to the track can act as a wave impeding barrier. The existence of a critical frequency from which this mitigation measure starts to be effective, as well as a critical angle delimiting the area where the vibration levels are reduced, is demonstrated in this paper. Two realistic case studies are discussed to indicate that the effectiveness of the proposed mitigation measure depends on the stiffness contrast between the soil and the stiffened block of soil. Keywords— Dynamic soil-structure interaction, railway induced vibrations, mitigation measures on the transmission path, frequency–wavenumber analysis

Performance of Shred Tire Mixed with Railway Subgrade in Reduction of Train Induced Vibrations
In this study, the performance of shred tire mixed with railway subgrade is evaluated to reduce environmental vibrations caused by trains’ passage. Since incorporating the Shred Tire seeds in soil affects on its shear strength and deformability parameters so, the first stage of the study was allocated to conducting a series of laboratory tests such as the unconfined compression test, and CBR an...
متن کاملEffect of Rail Corrugation on the Amount of Train Induced Vibrations near a Historical Building
The evaluation and control of the trains induced vibrations needs even more attention in the case of underground tracks which passes near to monuments and historical sites. The rail corrugations which occur due to the wheels’ impulse loads during the operation period of underground railway tracks, usually amplify the ground borne noise and vibration. In the current study, the mentioned phenomen...

متن کاملInfluences of Railway Track Geometry Parameters on Ground-Borne Vibration
One of the most important challenges in the development of urban railways network is the effects of railway vibrations on human and adjacent structures. Although various investigations into the sources of railway vibrations have been conducted, very few research works have been reported on the influences of track geometry parameters on the level of vibrations. This is addressed in this resea...
